Photographing Portraits

Welcome to Nate Takes. This is new, and a long time in the making. I thought I’d start with Photographing Portraits. What does that mean? My approach is to take in your surroundings. How does the subject look in what you want to create? How does the light look in the space and on your subject? Do I need to adjust the light? Choice of lens is key, whether you use a zoom or a prime. Have I used a good focal length that suits my subject/objective? I always aim to keep my background clear of distractions, because I want the focus to be solely on my subject. Above all, it is connection, through good conversation and gentle direction, that brings out a relaxed expression and confident body language, turning a nice photo into a portrait with character.
